Summer Field School

Geographic Scope: Southwest Virginia, Central Appalachia

Eight on-farm classes providing hands-on learning at local farms. Students visit farms and hear about different successful production methods implemented by experienced farmers.

• Class #2 (May 16): Small Scale Farm Tools with Dylan and Denita House at Creative Seeds Farm
• Class #3 (June 6): Greenhouse Management and Hemp Production with Lisa K. Worley at Singingwood
• Class #4 (June 20): Management Intensive Grazing with Trevor Hansard at Red Tail Grove
• Class #5 (July 11): Sustainable Practices with Justen Dick at Kelly Ridge Farm
• Class #6 (July 25): Beekeeping with Steve Payne and Chad Overhold at Reserve Farm Apiary
• Class #7 (August 8): Apple Orchards with Tom McMullen at Kelly Ridge Farms Orchards
• Class #8 (August 22): Forest Farming with Dr. Ryan Huish at Appalachian Cove Forest Farm and Homestead

• Beginner to intermediate farmers
• Anyone interested in learning sustainable farming practices
• Free for military veterans, active duty personnel, and gold-star families

Pricing Options

• Free: Military veterans, active duty, gold-star families
• Free with volunteer alternative: Volunteer 8 hours in lieu of payment
• $50: All 8 classes bundle
• $10: Individual class attendance

Registration Process

1. Provide Contact Information:
- Name (first and last)
- Phone number
- Email address
- Indicate if you fall into any of these categories: Military Veteran, Active Duty, Gold-Star Family, or None of the Above

2. Subscribe to Newsletter (Optional): Check box to subscribe to ASD newsletter

3. Select Ticket Option:
- FREE for Military Veterans/Active Duty/Gold-Star Families (ONLY for verified veterans, active duty, or gold-star families)
- Volunteer in lieu of payment (8 hours volunteer commitment)
- $50 for all 8 classes bundle
- $10 per individual class

4. Choose Classes:
- For the bundle option, all 8 classes are included
- For individual attendance, select specific classes from the list
- Important Note: Only put 1 in the quantity field unless purchasing multiple bundles, or it will charge for more

5. Secure Checkout: Process payment through secure payment portal
