Student Travel Awards

Purpose: Support student travel to present papers or posters at the American Dialect Society annual meeting.

Award Details:

  • Amount: Four travel grants of $1,000 each

  • Eligibility: Students whose papers or posters have been chosen for the ADS annual meeting program

  • Recognition: Recipients are recognized and supported to attend the annual meeting
  • Geographic Scope: North America (languages and dialects used in North America, Pacific and Atlantic islands, and Caribbean Basin)

    Focus Areas: Any aspect of languages and dialects including:

  • Spoken, signed, or written language

  • Modern or historical language varieties

  • Indigenous or introduced languages

  • Common or rare dialects

    1. Nomination Source: Student's faculty advisor or other professor (not self-nominations)
    2. Submission Format: Letter of nomination
    3. Required Materials: Letter from advisor/professor supporting the nomination

    5. Deadline: October 30 (annually) - nominations not accepted after this date
