Student Civic Leader Scholarship

Overview: A scholarship program offered by Elgin Community College's Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) that provides financial support to students selected as Civic Leaders while they engage in civically-engaged projects and learning experiences.

Geographic Scope: Elgin Community College students (Elgin, Illinois)

Focus Areas:

  • Civic engagement and community service

  • Student leadership development

  • Civically engaged projects and learning experiences
  • Award Amount: $500 per semester for each semester served as a Civic Leader

    Time Commitment:

  • Approximately 3 hours per week during fall and spring semesters

  • Approximately 5 hours per week during summer semester (June and July)

  • Flexible schedules based on student needs
  • Responsibilities of Selected Civic Leaders:

  • Complete a semester-long or academic year project(s) with the Center for Civic Engagement

  • Present civically engaged project or learning experience at an ECC forum or disciplinary research conference

  • Fulfill civic engagement activities as directed by the CCE
  • Award Disbursement: Scholarship funds are added directly to the student's ECC Student Account

    Selection Process: Application-based; selected applicants may be contacted for a formal interview
