Note: Applicants must be full-time students to be considered for a scholarship. About The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region is an independent, public charity established in September 1996 by a steering committee of local civic leaders to gather permanent funds to support our area. The Foundation’s service area now includes Danville, Pittsylvania and Halifax counties in Virginia as well as Caswell County, NC. Scholarship Information Currently, The Community Foundation administers 75 separate endowed scholarship funds. Established by individuals or organizations, these funds help area students achieve their academic and career-oriented goals. Scholarships through the Community Foundation support individuals of all ages who reside within the Dan River Region – Danville, VA; Pittsylvania and Halifax counties, VA; and Caswell County, NC. In 2025, we awarded more than $370,000 to 152 students. Steven Bruce Daniels, Jr. Scholarship Open applications for Danville, Pittsylvania or Caswell County graduates attending either NC State University or Virginia Tech with plans to study in the field of agriculture (primary) or with a high school varsity athletics background (secondary).
