Overview:
The Sprint to Excellence Grant Initiative provides targeted grants to public and small private and parochial schools on the island of St. Croix. As an extension of the Foundation's Model Schools Initiative, the program awards competitive grants for high-impact, academic-based projects that serve to enhance student achievement.

Focus Areas:
Grants are awarded in the following priority areas:

  • Innovative Instruction and Professional Development

  • Literacy Enrichment and Assessment

  • Classroom Management & Discipline

  • Mentoring and Personal Development
  • Eligible Organizations:

  • All public schools on St. Croix

  • Small private or parochial schools that meet established eligibility requirements
  • Award Details:

  • Maximum Award: Up to $10,000 per grant

  • Reporting Requirements: Strict reporting guidelines and phased grant award disbursements to ensure accountability and focus on meeting outlined goals and timelines
  • Program History:
    Launched in 2011, the program was created with support from donors including Tropico Management, LP, Mustafa Mehmet Corporation, and the Richard H. Driehaus Charitable Lead Trust.

    Future Expansion:
    The Foundation hopes to expand the Sprint to Excellence Initiative to include all schools throughout the Territory in the future.
