Solomon Carter Fuller Award Grant

The Solomon Carter Fuller Award, established in 1969 by the American Psychiatric Association, honors a distinguished Black individual who has significantly enhanced the quality of life for Black communities. Named after Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller, the first Black psychiatrist in America, the award aims to recognize contributions in mental health and promote equitable access to psychiatric services, aligning with the organization's mission to advance mental health and well-being.

The mission of the American Psychiatric Association is to
promote universal and equitable access to the highest quality care for all people affected by mental disorders, including substance use disorders;promote psychiatric education and research;advance and represent the profession of psychiatry; andserve the professional needs of its membership.
Goals
To promote the rights and best interests of patients and those actually or potentially making use of psychiatric services for mental illness, including substance use disorders.

Eligibility

Candidates for the award should be of African descent.
