Overview

Social Justice Fellowship

Overview: A leadership opportunity for students to work with local nonprofit and advocacy organizations on social justice issues.

Details:

  • Focus Areas: Poverty, climate change, housing justice, food insecurity, civic engagement, racial justice, gun violence, education equity, and more

  • Values: Driven by Jewish values of Tikkun Olam (Repairing the World) and Tzedek (Justice)

  • Structure: Weekly 1-hour social justice learning sessions with Hillel staff and Bay Area social justice leaders
  • Fellow Responsibilities:

  • Placed at nonprofit or advocacy organization of choice

  • Bring 25 unique students to volunteer/advocate/work at organization

  • Participate in at least 10 "acts of service" over semester

  • Attend weekly learning sessions
  • Service Options:

  • In-person volunteering (with appropriate precautions)

  • Virtual volunteering (depending on fellow comfort level)
  • Eligibility: UC Berkeley students passionate about social justice

    Application Process

    1. Complete the Spring Fellowship Application form
    2. Select "Social Justice Fellowship" option
    3. Answer required questions about social justice interests
    4. Identify organizations of interest
    5. Select available weekly meeting times
    6. Submit application

    Required Questions:

  • What social justice issue(s) are you most passionate about and why?

  • Are there social justice organizations you'd like to be placed in?

  • Which days of the week work best for weekly meetings?

  • Is there anything else we should know?
  • Available Meeting Times:

  • Tuesdays, 6:00-7:00 PM

  • Tuesdays, 7:00-8:00 PM

  • Other times available upon request
