Overview:
The Snowpack Avalanche Scholarship Program was founded in 2019 by SheJumps and the Northwest Avalanche Center (NWAC) with support by K2 Skis and Fremont Brewing. The program aims to increase access to backcountry mountains by providing free or heavily subsidized avalanche education to women, with specific spots earmarked for women of color and individuals with demonstrated financial need.

Program History:

  • 2018/19: Provided 30 spots for AIARE Level 1 courses in Washington state

  • 2019/20: Awarded 30 spots to low-income women to take AIARE Level 1 courses held in Washington, Oregon, and Colorado at 50-100% cost-paid
  • Eligibility:

  • Women and female-identifying individuals

  • Demonstrated financial need

  • Priority for women of color

  • Interest in backcountry recreation and avalanche safety
