SNAP E&T Program

Program Name: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Employment & Training (SNAP E&T)

Funder: Region 1 Workforce Development Board (WORK4WV)

Geographic Scope: Region 1 in West Virginia (eleven counties)

Program Purpose: Promotes long-term self-sufficiency by preparing SNAP recipients for employment through work-related education and training activities, thereby decreasing dependency on assistance programs.

Background: SNAP Employment and Training was created in 1985 to help families exit SNAP by becoming self-sufficient through work. The goal of SNAP E&T is to assist SNAP recipients in obtaining employment.

Eligibility:

  • SNAP Recipients referred by the Department of Health and Human Resources

  • All unemployed adults from age 16 up to age 59, not caring for a child under 6

  • SNAP recipients who meet federally established exemption criteria are not required to participate but may voluntarily participate as funding permits
