Small Grants Program

Status: Actively accepting applications

Geographic Scope: Southwest Minnesota service area (Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Yellow Medicine, and portions of Cottonwood, Lac qui Parle, Nobles and Redwood counties)

Award Amount: One-time grants up to $5,000 per organization

Total Funding Available: $30,000 per fiscal year (subject to change)

Application Deadlines:

  • August 31st at 5:00 PM

  • January 31st at 5:00 PM

  • Late or incomplete submissions will not be accepted

    • Focus Areas: Projects aligned with UWSWMN Community Impact Priorities

  • Health

  • Education

  • Financial stability

  • Hunger

  • Safety & well-being

    • Eligible Uses:

  • Program work including planning, training, and/or development

  • Organizational capacity building including strategic planning, governance and organizational development activities

  • Community and/or human service work that includes volunteer participation or addresses emerging/unmet needs

  • Innovative solutions to local issues

    • Eligibility: Nonprofit organizations in UWSWMN service area

    Review Process: Applications reviewed by trained local volunteer team making recommendations to UWSWMN Board of Directors

    1. Attend Optional Workshop
    - Workshop offered on Wednesday, August 7th from 3:30 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.
    - Location: United Way office, 800 East Main Street, Marshall
    - RSVP required by emailing unitedway@unitedwayswmn.org or calling 507-929-2273
    - Workshop is free and includes online platform demo

    2. Submit Application
    - Access funding guidelines, eligibility requirements, and application materials on UWSWMN website under "Our Impact Tab—Small Grants"
    - Submit through online grant platform
    - Deadlines: August 31st and January 31st at 5:00 PM

    3. Application Requirements
    - Complete all required fields
    - Include all supporting documentation
    - Ensure submission is on time (late or incomplete submissions will not be accepted)
