Summary
The SFS Endowment Awards aim to support student research and recognize excellence among student members of the Society for Freshwater Science. Approximately 16 awards will be granted based on research merit, in addition to 10 awards for undergraduate travel. Eligible applicants must be current student members of SFS. These awards encourage participation in the annual meeting and are intended for research-related expenses, promoting the advancement of freshwater science.Overview
Mission The Society for Freshwater Science (SFS) is an international organization whose members study freshwater organisms, biotic communities, physical processes that affect ecosystem function, linkages between freshwater ecosystems and surrounding landscapes, habitat and water quality assessment, conservation and restoration. SFS fosters the exchange of scientific information among its membership, and with other professional societies, resource managers, policymakers, educators, and the public. SFS advocates for the use of best-available science in policymaking and management of freshwater ecosystems. Endowment Awards The Endowment Awards recognize excellence among our student members and are designed to support student research in a variety of areas. These awards are based on research merit and approximately 16 awards from the endowment will be granted plus 10 awards for undergraduate travel.Eligibility

Applicants must be CURRENT STUDENT members of SFS, with the exception of the Systematics Award for which researchers, as well as students, are eligible.Student award winners should be present at the annual meeting to receive the award.Students will only be eligible for one award during a specific degree program (i.e., only one during a B.S., B.A., M.S. or Ph.D. degree).A student cannot receive both an Endowment Award and a Conservation Committee Award in the same year.Students may receive only one award in an award year and must identify the funds (Awards) for which they wish to apply.The major professor/advisor of applicants must supply confirmation of graduate student standing.There are no restrictions on how the awards can be spent from the General Endowment, Boesel/Sanderson, Simpson, or Systematics funds, but it is assumed that disbursements will be directly related to research leading to student degree programs, including travel to the SFS meeting. Funds from the Americas, Fellows, and Peterson funds must be used to support travel to the SFS meeting (i.e. recipients must attend the SFS meeting that year and give a presentation related to their research). You must be a member of this organization to apply for this award - become a member. Applicants must be CURRENT STUDENT members of SFS.Ineligibility
