Scott Brown Memorial Scholarship

Funder: State Horticultural Association of Pennsylvania (SHAP)

Overview: This scholarship is designed for students who intend to pursue careers in the Pennsylvania fruit industry. Named in memory of Scott Brown, a fruit grower known for his encouragement and leadership in the fruit industry and his community. Scott was an active member of the Research and Endowment Fund committees of SHAP and past president of the York Fruit Growers Association.

    Eligibility

  • Academic Status: Must maintain full-time enrollment in an undergraduate program
  • Institution Types: University, college, community college, or trade/technical school
  • Applicant Types: High school seniors and students currently enrolled in a degree program
  • Geographic Scope: Pennsylvania fruit industry focus
  • Need-Based: This is not a need-based scholarship

Additional Information

SHAP strongly encourages scholarship recipients to volunteer with either the Young Growers Alliance or State Horticultural Association of Pennsylvania food booths at the PA Farm Show in January.

Application Process

Notification: Recipients will be notified by June 15th

Required Materials

2. Academic Transcript
- Most recent academic transcript (copy)

3. Two Letters of Reference
- From someone outside of immediate family

4. Essay (approximately 500 words)
- Topic: Describe your previous experiences with the fruit industry (if any) and your vision for the role you hope to play in the Pennsylvania fruit industry upon graduation
- Format: Typed

Supplementary Questions in Application

1. List your high school or on-campus activities, involvement in student organizations, any leadership positions and years of participation
2. List your participation in any civic or public service activities (on or off-campus)
3. List any work experience you've had in or related to the fruit industry
4. List any scholarships or awards you have received (including honor roll)
