Overview

SCOR Travel Support

Overview: SCOR provides travel support for early-career scientists from low- to medium-income countries to attend ocean science meetings, conferences, workshops, and trainings.

Geographic Scope: Global, with focus on eligible developing countries as listed on SCOR website. Recipients should not be based in the country where the event is held.

Focus Areas: Ocean science and marine-related topics across all SCOR research areas.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Identify as early-career (enrolled as students or up to 10 years post-degree) individuals in ocean science and/or marine-related topics

  • Delivering an oral presentation or poster at the meeting/conference or participating in a training/workshop

  • Based in an eligible developing country

  • Have not received a SCOR travel grant within the past 2 years
  • Key Details:

  • Applicants: Meeting/conference/workshop/training organizers (not individual scientists)

  • Award Amount: Typically $3,000-$10,000 USD per event, depending on SCOR's budget and event relevance

  • Funding Covers: Flights and other transportation, accommodation, meals, registration, and/or visa costs

  • Application Frequency: Reviewed quarterly with deadlines at end of March, June, September, and December

  • Submission Requirement: Applications must be submitted at least 6 months before the event

  • Urgent Review: Organizers may request urgent review between deadlines with justification

    Who Applies: Meeting organizers submit applications (not individual scientists)

    Required Materials:
    1. Completed application form
    2. Optional cover letter
    3. Preliminary plans for fund distribution among recipients
    4. Name and affiliation of travel recipients (once selected)
    5. Post-meeting report (after event), including financial accounting if organizers manage finances
