Eligibility Requirements:

• Must be a child, grandchild, or spouse/domestic partner of a current Sonoma County employee or retiree
• Employee or retiree must be a member of the Sonoma County Employees' Retirement Association (SCERA)
• Must be a full-time student
• Minimum 3.0 GPA
• High school seniors are eligible
• Non-repeating scholarship (cannot receive more than once at this institution)
• However, students may receive a SCARE scholarship at SRJC and then receive one if transferring to SSU

Program History: SCARE Scholarship Program began in 1985 and has evolved significantly. Originally a $250 scholarship to high school seniors, it was restructured in 1989 to support college students. The current structure offering $3,000 scholarships to two SSU students annually was established in January 2020.
