Sarcoma Research Grants Initiative

  • Exploring differences in sarcoma development across age groups (children, adolescents, young adults, adults)

  • Early detection and diagnosis of sarcoma

  • Pre-clinical studies leading to IND

  • Development of sarcoma tissue registries

  • Studies with patients undergoing treatment or participating in investigational studies
  • Eligible Uses:

  • Development of models

  • Conducting experiments

  • Development of sarcoma tissue registries

  • Similar activities related to research into causes, origins, development, metastasis, molecular biology, diagnosis, and treatment of sarcomas
  • Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must be affiliated with a 501(c)(3) organization

  • For international programs, must be U.S.-based or affiliated 501(c)(3)
  • Award Details:

  • Generally do not exceed $50,000 for one year

  • Grant duration typically does not extend beyond two years
  • Special Considerations:

  • Foundation encourages open science principles (timely and public dissemination of scientific data, sharing of experimental methodology)

  • Foundation encourages collaborative applications between investigators in different departments within and among institutions

  • Co-submission applicants must clearly indicate the nature of support requested from Alan B. Slifka Foundation and other organizations in detailed description and budget

  • How to Apply

    Application Process

    Step 1: Submit Letter of Intent (LOI)

  • Send a 1-2 page letter of intent via email to sarcomaLOI@slifkafoundation.org
  • Required LOI Components:

  • Brief description of the research study topic

  • Sub-types of sarcoma under investigation

  • Principal investigator name and affiliation

  • Project timeline

  • Overall project cost

  • Relevant NIH biosketches
  • Step 2: Wait for Response

  • If the LOI is of interest, the Foundation will send a grant application to complete
  • Step 3: Submit Full Grant Application

  • Complete and submit the grant application provided by the Foundation

  • Include detailed description of the study and budget

  • If co-submitting to another organization, clearly indicate the nature of support being requested from each
  • Important Notes:

  • All applicants must be affiliated with a 501(c)(3) organization
