SAME Summer Engineering & Construction Camps

Geographic Scope: Multiple locations across United States

Camp Locations:

  • US Marine Corps Camp at Camp Lejeune, NC (June 18-24, typical dates)

  • US Air Force Academy Camp at Colorado Springs, CO

  • US Air Force Camp at Scott Air Force Base, IL

  • US Army Camp at Vicksburg, MS

  • US Navy Camp at Port Hueneme, CA

    • Award/Benefits:

  • One camper selected weekly receives a scholarship for higher education in engineering field

  • All camp fees, airfare, and transportation covered by sponsoring Post (varies by sponsorship)

    • Focus Areas:

  • High school students interested in STEM/engineering/construction

  • Hands-on learning in engineering and construction activities

  • Military science and military life experience

  • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) exploration

    • Eligibility:

  • High school students with interest in engineering or related fields

  • Minimum age 15 years old prior to first day of travel (Arkansas Post requirement)

  • Geographic availability varies by Post

    • Program Details:

  • Week-long residential camps

  • Participants sleep in barracks, eat in galley, participate in morning PT

  • Mix of civilian and military engineers serve as mentors

  • Squads compete in activities: concrete beam design/construction, trebuchet, cardboard canoe (AAV), storm water management device (BMP), aircraft flight telemetry

  • Activity winners receive streamer for squad flag

  • Diverse attendance (18+ states, 26+ Posts, ~50 campers)

  • Mentors and volunteers needed and appreciated
