S. Innes Memorial Student Travel Bursary

Purpose
Established in 2000 in tribute to Stuart Innes and Malcolm Ramsay, two distinguished Arctic marine mammal researchers who died in a helicopter crash near Resolute Bay, Nunavut, Canada on May 21, 2000. The award supports students in developing careers in Arctic marine mammal research.- Must be: Post-secondary student (MSc or PhD level)
- Research focus: Conducting marine mammal research in the Arctic
- Requirement: Must have submitted an accepted abstract for presentation at the upcoming Biennial Conference
Eligibility
Award Purpose
The award is designed to support student travel to the Society's Biennial Marine Mammal Conference, providing opportunities for young researchers to learn, network, and develop enthusiasm from leaders in the field.- After the conference, awardee must submit a brief report summarizing how the student benefited from the conference experience
Post-Award Requirements
- A selection committee of Stuart's colleagues reviews applications
- Committee's decision is final
- One winner selected per cycle

Applications should consist of the following documents:
1. Student Information:
- Student's name
- Affiliated institution
- Academic level (MSc or PhD)
- Year of study
- Current CV
2. References:
- Name and address of supervisor
- One additional reference contact
3. Research Documentation:
- Abstract submitted to the 2015 Biennial Conference (or upcoming conference)
4. Project Description:
- Letter of no more than 400 words describing:
- The marine mammal research project
- How the student would benefit from the award
- Direct benefits of the award to the project
