Scholarships At South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF), we proudly manage more than 350 scholarship funds in partnership with generous donors who are committed to supporting students. These scholarships offer countless opportunities to help ease the financial burden of continuing their education. Ruth D. Frick Ames Scholarship To provide financial support to students pursuing a degree in nursing. Ruth was born near Wessington Springs, SD, and graduated from Wessington Springs High School. She pursued nursing training at Methodist State Hospital in Mitchell, SD, as part of the U.S. Cadet Corps, graduating in 1946. Ruth married Robert Ames, and they farmed north of Miller. Their home was filled with love, as they were foster parents to a total of fourteen children and adopted two boys. Ruth was deeply involved in Greenleaf United Methodist Church, often holding a leadership position in the Methodist Women's group. Her strong faith and commitment to Jesus Christ influenced everything she did and shaped who she was. Ruth's warmth and kindness had a profound impact on many people. To honor Ruth's legacy of love and caring service, Robert established this scholarship to support students with financial need in pursuing a degree in nursing. This scholarship reflects Ruth's dedication to helping others and aims to continue her tradition of compassion and community service.
