Overview

Richardson-Lowman Serious Mental Illness Research Grant The Richardson-Lowman Serious Mental Illness Research Grant supports Serious Mental Illness (SMI) clinical research and SMI program evaluation by doctoral-level psychologists. Three SMI areas of particular interest are: functional assessment and rehabilitation including self-care, work, housing, and health care; and/or the interaction of mental illness and physical health in middle age and old age; and/or mental health of incarcerated persons.

Applicants must: Be doctoral level psychologists of any career stage. Demonstrate competence and capacity to execute the proposed workThis program requires that applicants specify how they will handle obtaining appropriate IRB approvals and finding any necessary collaborators in order to complete their work. Applicants are not required to have IRB approval at the time of application. Applicants must provide a copy of the project’s IRB approval letter (or a waiver that indicates that their project does not require IRB approval) before funding can be disbursed. APF supports the direct costs related to the proposal execution. Examples of direct costs include: Open access costs/publication costs PI stipend/salary support Participant payments Technology expenses Travel Non-PI (personnel) stipend/salary support Supplemental training International applicants from countries that have diplomatic relations with the United States and who meet the other eligibility requirements may apply for APF funding.

Ineligibility

APF does not allow institutional indirect/administrative/overhead costs and/or fees to be taken out of grant monies. In general, any cost that is not directly compensating or reimbursing an effort/service/item/infrastructure that is integral to the success of the proposed project is considered either an institutional indirect/ administrative/ overhead cost and/ or fee. Examples of institutional indirect/administrative/overhead costs and/or fees (but are not limited to) include:Technology Infrastructure Fees Cost-Share Initiatives of any kind Lab administration and/or maintenance fees Etc.If you are unsure whether your budget item falls within the unallowable category of institutional indirect/administrative/overhead cost and/or fee, please share the item and APF’s policy (above) with your institution’s grant/scholarship office.
