Overview

NOTE: Applicants must submit their abstract to GSA by the deadline and be presenting their paper or poster in one of the Division's sessions at the annual meeting. Richard Hay Student Paper/Poster Award The Richard Hay Award is a travel grant awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student presenting a paper or poster in geoarchaeology at the annual GSA meeting. This student travel award honors Richard Hay, a long-standing member of the Geoarchaeology Division with a long and distinguished career in sedimentary geology, mineralogy, and archaeological geology. He is particularly well-known for his work at the Olduvai Gorge and Laetoli hominin-bearing sites and was awarded the Division's Rip Rapp award in 2000. Purpose: The Geoarchaeology Division of the Geological Society of America (GSA) encourages the presentation of research posters and papers by undergraduate and graduate students in Division sessions held at the annual GSA meeting. This award is intended to defray a portion of the expenses involved with attending and presenting a paper at the annual GSA meeting. Guidelines: The Richard Hay Award is competitive; the Geoarchaeology Division Awards Committee selects recipients based on the scientific merit of their research topic and the clarity of their expanded paper or poster abstract. Award: Awards will be made by the Division Awards Committee. Awards are up to $650 and will be sent to the awardee by the GSA following the committee's final selection. More than one award can be made if funds are available. If no meritorious proposals are received, the committee may elect to make no award for that year. The decisions concerning awards are made solely by the committee and are final.
