Recover St. Lucie Workforce Training and Development Programs

Status: COVID-19 relief program (launched September 2020)

Geographic Scope: St. Lucie County, Florida

Funding Source: Federal CARES Act funds distributed through St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners

Program Overview:
Workforce training and development programs designed to support St. Lucie County residents and businesses economically impacted by COVID-19. The initiative includes two distinct funding tracks:

Individual Scholarship Grants

Award Amount: Up to $5,000

Eligibility:

  • St. Lucie County residents transitioning from industries hardest hit by COVID-19

  • Must have lost job or had hours reduced due to COVID-19

  • Industries include: hospitality, entertainment, food and beverage, personal services (and similar)
  • What is Funded:

  • Immediate, short-term training or certification for in-demand occupations

  • Job placement assistance
  • Business On-the-Job Training (OJT) Grants

    Award Amount: Up to $10,000 on tiered scale based on number of full-time participating employees

    Eligibility:

  • St. Lucie County for-profit businesses

  • Business must be in recovery mode and open/operational

  • Consistent with governor's guidelines, CDC guidance, and market realities

  • Businesses must be training or upskilling new hires or existing employees
  • What is Funded:

  • Paid on-the-job training programs to train or upskill employees to meet market demands
