Summary

The Radcliffe-Brown and Firth Trust Funds support social anthropology research for young scholars facing financial challenges. Funded by the Royal Anthropological Institute and the Association of Social Anthropologists, these awards prioritize students affiliated with British or Commonwealth universities who are nearing the completion of their theses. This initiative aims to ensure that promising research in anthropology continues to thrive despite potential funding limitations.

Overview

The Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland (RAI) is the world's longest-established scholarly association dedicated to the furtherance of anthropology (the study of humankind) in its broadest and most inclusive sense. The Institute is a non-profit-making registered charity and is entirely independent, with a Director and a small staff accountable to the Council, which in turn is elected annually from the Fellowship. It has a Royal Patron in the person of HRH The Duke of Gloucester KG, GCVO. The aim of the awards, which are jointly funded by the Association of Social Anthropologists (ASA) and the RAI, is to help young scholars in social anthropology who are handicapped by lack of funds to work towards the completion of research upon which they have already embarked.
