Overview

Racial & Economic Justice Fund

Award Size: $10,000 grants

Focus: Grassroots groups using community organizing to build power and create change by pressuring policymakers and corporations to adopt legislation, policies, or practices that advance racial justice and a just economy.

Geographic Scope: Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, or Camden counties

Status: Applications for 2026 funding cycle are closed. Next application will open in early 2027.

    Eligibility Requirements

    Must meet all of the following:
  • Meet all basic eligibility criteria
  • Have a long-term vision for and engage strategies that promote racial and/or economic justice
  • Use community organizing to achieve goals and create social change
  • Led by people most affected by injustice with broad membership and leadership bases that can survive when key leaders step down
  • Understand power and can talk about how they are trying to challenge power imbalances within organizations, communities, and between community members and policy makers
  • Have a plan with specific, achievable short-term and long-term goals that promote racial and/or economic justice through changes in policies or practices at neighborhood, city, state, or national level
  • Knowledgeable about other organizations working on same issue; able to work collaboratively across movements, issues, and communities
  • Less likely to be funded by traditional funders due to commitment to challenging power and prioritizing leadership of marginalized people; grant from Bread & Roses critical to seeding or sustaining work

    Restrictions

  • Cannot apply for both Racial & Economic Justice Fund and Future Fund in same year
  • Organizations can receive up to $50,000 total from Bread & Roses within a 12-month period
