Overview

PROMISE Study Research Grant

Full Name: A Prostate Cancer Registry of Outcomes and Germline Mutations for Improved Survival and Treatment Effectiveness (PROMISE)

Funder: Advancing Cancer Treatment (ACT)

Focus Areas:

  • Prostate cancer research

  • Germline genetic mutations (inherited genes) in prostate cancer

  • Understanding critical role of genetics in disease progression and treatment

  • Clinical trial matching and improved treatment options

  • Patient outcomes and survival
  • Funded Recipients/Collaborators:

  • UW Medicine: Collaborative research on germline genetic mutations; long-term study on prostate cancer causes, prevention strategies, diagnostics, and survival. UW has identified/assembled up to 80% of genes expressed in prostate cancer, developed one of largest serum and tissue banks, advanced studies of bone biology and skeletal metastases, assembled information on 300+ hereditary prostate cancer families.

  • Johns Hopkins Medicine: Prostate Cancer Program research crossing multiple specialties; studying detection, diagnosis, treatment approaches, genetic underpinnings, DNA methylation, inflammation's role in disease, and development of biomarkers to improve detection and guide personalized treatment.

  • Prostate Cancer Clinical Trials Consortium (PCCTC): Led by internationally recognized leaders; designs, implements, and completes early-phase clinical trials translating discoveries to improved standards of care. Manages efficient trial selection, reporting, site management, clinical operations, and data analysis for PROMISE study.
  • Research Goals:

  • Improve knowledge of germline genetic mutations in prostate cancer

  • Identify genetic risk factors

  • Develop biomarkers for detection, diagnosis, risk evaluation, and disease monitoring

  • Reduce overtreatment and quality-of-life impacts

  • Improve clinical trial matching and treatment options
