What We Do We promote independent living: Alpha One empowers individuals with disabilities to take charge of choices and act on their own behalf to achieve their goals for independence. Alpha One advocates for consumer programs and services as well as access and change within society throughout the state of Maine. We help people stay in their homes: Alpha One believes that despite a disability, everyone should live in the setting that they choose and has programs and services that can assist individuals with remaining in their homes. This may be done by hiring a personal care attendant through our consumer-directed personal attendant services program or by working with Alpha One staff to determine ways to improve home accessibility. We connect Mainers with funding sources that allow them to live independently: Alpha One can connect individuals to funding sources that can be used to purchase adaptive equipment, assistive technology, or to make home modifications. These funding sources include Alpha One’s Adaptive Equipment Loan Program or grant programs. We can also refer you to other sources in Maine.
