Overview

The PIDS Foundation The Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society (PIDS) Foundation supports scientific and educational activities directed at preventing, diagnosing, and treating bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic infections in children. The Foundation provides the resources for medical studies in basic sciences, translational medicine, and clinical trials to generate new knowledge regarding infections and for its dissemination to physicians, scientists, epidemiologists, and allied health care professionals through educational activities for Society members and students at all levels. Apprenticeship Program Ralph D. Feigin was a phenomenal clinician, teacher, and writer. His prolific work as editor of Feigin and Cherry’s Textbook of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, and author of numerous publications helped to advance pediatric infectious diseases. In his memory the Journal of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society (JPIDS), the official journal of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society, has created an apprenticeship program aimed at fostering talented early career pediatric infectious diseases physicians who have an interest in contributing to publications that help to inform our field. The award recipient will be announced during the PIDS Annual Membership Meeting held in conjunction with IDWeek 2025 with the term running from October 2025 through October 2026. The apprenticeship is awarded to a junior faculty member within the first three years of their first faculty appointment in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the time of application. The JPIDS Feigin Apprentice will gain a general understanding of the entire editorial process by serving as a member of the Associate Editorial Team. The awardee should plan to commit approximately 4 hours per week to Feigin Apprenticeship-related activities, which include: Participation in a one hour teleconference in which manuscripts are discussed and reviewed by the Associate Editors, Deputy Editor, and Editor-in-Chief Summarizing, reviewing, and presenting assigned manuscripts for discussion during weekly teleconferences Other special projects or initiatives as assigned Attendance and participation in JPIDS Editorial Board Meetings at IDWeek
