Peterson Foundation Grant

The Peterson Foundation Grant, established in 1944 by Hal and Charlie Peterson, supports charitable organizations within Kerr, Bandera, Edwards, Gillespie, Kendall, Kimble, and Real Counties. The Foundation primarily funds health care and education initiatives, and applications are accepted year-round from §501(c)(3) organizations in the service area. Notably, grants are not available for religious purposes, political actions, or individuals, ensuring a focus on community enrichment.

Hal “Boss” Peterson made the initial contribution establishing the Foundation in 1944. The Foundation Trustees decided “...to establish a non-profit hospital in the City of Kerrville for the benefit of the people of the Hill Country in general...”. Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital was dedicated to the memory of their father and began receiving patients in July 1949.
The Foundation owned and operated the hospital until 1990, when it was established as a separate non-profit organization. The Foundation continues to support health care, education, and other charitable organizations throughout its seven county home area.

Eligibility

The Peterson Foundation accepts applications for charitable purposes from §501(c)(3) organizations located within its seven-county service area throughout the year.

Ineligibility

No grants are made for religious purposes, to political action or lobby groups, or to individuals.
