About Perspective Fund Mission At Perspective, we believe that storytelling has the power to transform minds and inspire action. Driven by this belief, we champion creative projects that not only stand on their own as first-rate pieces of media but that equip their audiences with the knowledge, willpower, and community infrastructure to bring about a more socially and economically inclusive world—one where more people have more access to opportunity. Perspective provides storytellers and journalists with the funding, tools, and strategy-driven support to tell stories about equity and justice that generate action. We are committed to recasting narratives in ways that reshape perceptions and drive social change. Approach The way a story is told is essential to its impact. That’s why Perspective supports projects in a variety of mediums. Our partnerships are centered around powerful storytelling and strategic distribution. Field-building is critical for an inclusive and sustainable industry for impact-oriented documentaries. We fund and collaborate with individuals and organizations across fields and mediums to ensure holistic support from narrative development to audience engagement. These include artists, movement leaders, researchers, funders, journalists, impact practitioners, and more. Organizational Support We provide funding to support those who are critical to the infrastructure of the documentary film impact ecosystem. We seek to build a robust network of organizations, initiatives and thought leaders in the documentary impact space who make the work more equitable, effective and sustainable. Funding Areas We offer two primary areas of funding: General Operating SupportUnrestricted support towards the ongoing work and mission of strategic organizations who are focused on amplifying impact-focused films and the documentary impact field. Project SupportTo catalyze specific programs or initiatives that are focused on amplifying impact focused films and the documentary impact field. How We Approach Funding A robust network of longstanding and emergent organizations, initiatives and thought leaders are critical to the documentary impact ecosystem. They work in concert to build, sustain and evolve the infrastructure, knowledge base and terms of engagement for members of this field. This work appears in many forms, including but not limited to organizations/initiatives whose mission is focused on using documentaries for social change, community engagement and/or cultural change; organizations/initiatives committed to work that helps expand the field’s understanding of the unique powers of documentaries; and/or contributes to a more sustainable, effective and equitable field as a whole. What We Fund Work that is well-aligned with our approach includes, but is not limited to, activities such as: Research to learn and identify field conditions, key gaps, and opportunitiesProjects and organizations that demonstrate creative and strategic approaches to documentary production, distribution and impactInitiatives that increase longitudinal opportunities for funds and professional development for historically excluded creators, strategists and leaders in the documentary impact spaceOrganizations and initiatives that address systemic barriers to the entry and advancement of all impact-driven creators, strategists and leadersField-led organizing and collaborative initiatives that advance the collective efforts of the documentary impact space
