Peggy V. Helmerich Distinguished Author Award
Funder: Tulsa Library Trust
Purpose: To give formal recognition, on behalf of the Tulsa County community, to internationally acclaimed authors who have written a distinguished body of work and made a major contribution to the field of literature and letters.
Award: $40,000 cash prize and an engraved crystal book
Geographic Scope: Tulsa County, Oklahoma
Award Components
- Gala: Annually, on the first Friday in December, a black-tie dinner is held where the winning author accepts their award and gives a presentation.
- Student Program: Each year, a book by the winning author is donated to Tulsa area classroom students. Teachers design curriculum around the book. On the first Friday in December, students receive a private presentation by the author.
- Public Presentation: On the first Saturday morning in December at Central Library, the winning author gives a free presentation to the public followed by questions, answers, and book signing.
