Peace Village Scholarship Program

Peace Village awards scholarships to high school graduates who are members of the dining staff employed by Morrison Dining Services at Peace Village Senior Living.

Geographic Scope: Palos Park, Illinois area

Eligibility:

• High school graduates
• Current or prospective employees of Peace Village dining staff (Morrison Dining Services)
• Candidates must be willing to continue their education (college or trades)

Award Amount: Varies annually; in 2022, five scholarships totaling $11,000 were awarded

Selection Criteria:

• Grades (3 years of academic records)
• Academic awards and achievements
• Extracurricular activities (sports, dance, leadership roles)
• Letters of recommendation (3 required)
• 500-word essay explaining student experiences, goals, and reasons for choosing those goals
• Scoring on 100-point scale based on formula considering grades, activities, and volunteer experience
• Committee members score applications with identifying information removed (names, schools, genders removed for unbiased evaluation)

Background: Resident volunteers and Peace Village staff fundraise for approximately six weeks to support these scholarships. A selection committee includes Peace Village residents.

Application Process

1. Complete an online application form
2. Submit three letters of recommendation
3. List academic awards and achievements
4. Describe extracurricular activities including sports, dance, or leadership roles
5. Provide three years of grades/academic records
6. Write a 500-word essay explaining:
   • Student experiences
   • Educational and career goals
   • Reasons for choosing these goals

Note: The selection committee removes all identifying information (names, schools, genders) from applications before scoring to ensure unbiased evaluation.

Scoring: Applications are scored on a 100-point system by multiple committee members, with top scores selected as winners.
