Program Type: International exchange and internship program for athletic trainers

Overview: PBATS operates multiple international athletic training exchange programs that allow athletic trainers to gain experience in professional baseball environments.

Program Components:

Japanese Athletic Training Program

• Established: 1994
• Duration: Up to 2 weeks each season during spring training
• Participants: Students from Japan work with athletic trainers in spring training
• Focus Areas:
- Diagnosis and management of baseball injuries - Development of return-to-play programs - Understanding athletic training in Major League Baseball settings
• Impact: Over 100 Japanese athletic training interns have completed the program
• Reciprocal Component: PBATS sends 12+ MLB athletic trainers annually to participate in educational exchange in Japanese professional baseball

Latin American Program

• Duration: 20+ years
• Leader: Ray Ramirez, New York Mets
• Location: Spring training with teams in Florida
• Impact: Highly successful

Carlow Institute (Ireland) Program

• Duration: 5+ years
• Participants: 3-4 students per spring training
• Duration: 7 weeks
• Location: Arizona
• Participating Teams: Texas Rangers, Seattle Mariners, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians, Oakland Athletics

Previous Exchange Programs

• Murdoch University (Australia) - 6 year program
• Programs with institutions in: Italy, Belgium, Netherlands
• Planned expansions to London

Educational Outreach Trips

PBATS organizes trips to educate and teach baseball sports medicine in: Ireland, Australia, Spain, Canada, Japan, Latin America, Belgium, Netherlands, Italy, and London

Additional Support: PBATS sends two members overseas annually to continue knowledge exchange and maintain leadership in baseball sports medicine worldwide.
