Overview

Oral History Grant

Status: Currently NOT accepting applications. Due to the termination of Utah Humanities' NEH Operating Grant, Program Grant and Sponsorship Applications are not currently being accepted. However, Oral History Grant applications continue on a quarterly basis.

Overview: Awarded in partnership with the Utah Historical Society to support local organizations in the collection, transcription, and public presentation of oral histories relevant to Utah.

Partnership: Utah Humanities and Utah Historical Society (formerly Utah Division of State History)

Geographic Scope: Utah statewide

Eligible Activities:

  • Collection of oral histories

  • Transcription of oral histories

  • Public presentation of oral histories

  • Projects relevant to Utah history
  • What They DON'T Fund:

  • Creative process (discussions accompanying creative activities are eligible)
  • Requirements:

  • Separate application process from Program Grants

  • Quarterly application deadlines and separate review process

  • All organizations must hold at least one public program

  • Organizations requesting $4,000+ must hold at least three public programs

  • Grant projects involving speakers, lectures, presentations, or panels must dedicate at least 50% of event to active engagement/discussion

  • All grants must be completed within one year of award date

  • Project Directors must attend a half-hour grant orientation Zoom meeting within one month of award

  • Final reports due one month after grant period end

  • Grantees must submit one high-quality photo and photo release per funded event
  • Awards:

  • Organizations may only receive one Program Grant and one Oral History Grant per year
  • Review Process:

  • Quarterly application deadlines and separate review from Program Grants

  • Grant Review Committee reviews applications

  • Committee includes at least one community reviewer and one student reviewer per round

    How to Apply

    Oral History Grant Application

    Application Deadlines: Quarterly (specific dates available in Oral History Grant Guidelines)

    When to Apply: Organizations should plan to apply at least 3 months prior to project start date

    Application Process:

    1. Submit application during quarterly deadline period
    2. Applications reviewed separately from Program Grants
    3. Award notifications sent to applicants
    4. Post-award requirements (see below)

    Post-Award Requirements:

  • Submit grant agreement and cash request form within 1 month of award

  • Enter events into online form at least 1 month before event start

  • Project Directors attend mandatory half-hour grant orientation Zoom meeting within 1 month of award

  • Submit final reports 1 month after grant period end

  • Submit one high-quality photo and photo release per funded event
