Opioid Settlement Funds Opioid Settlement Funds to Counties are based on a Memorandum with the West Virginia First Foundation. Local Governments received 24.5% of the total funds received by the state of West Virginia. Kanawha County has received its first allocation, which totaled $2,915,232.54. Per the Memorandum of Understanding, the “Approved Purposes” for the uses of the funds shall mean evidence-based strategies, programming, and/or services used to expand the availability of treatment for individuals affected by substance use disorders and/or addiction, to develop, promote and provide evidence-based substance use prevention strategies, to provide substance use avoidance and awareness education, to engage in enforcement to curtail the sale, distribution, promotion or use of opioids and other drugs, to decrease the oversupply of licit and illicit opioids and to support recovery from addiction to be performed by qualified providers. Funding Applications will be accepted for up to $250,000; however, funds are limited due to the amount of funding received from the settlement. Funds may be utilized to: Expand the availability of treatment for individuals affected by substance use disorders or addiction. Develop, promote, and provide evidence-based prevention strategies. Deliver substance use avoidance and awareness education. Support enforcement efforts to reduce the sale, distribution, promotion, or use of opioids and other drugs. Address the oversupply of licit and illicit opioids. Support addiction recovery through qualified providers.Eligibility
