Overview

Recognizing Work in Advancing Open Science Related to Earth and Space Science The Open Science Recognition Prize is awarded to a person or team for outstanding work in advancing Open Science related to Earth and space science and its impact globally. The winners will be chosen from nominations across the Earth and space science community. Applications will be selected from those that advance Open Science through creation or use of open data, software, and other open results.Eligible work can include projects, datasets, data products, software, workflow tools, computational notebooks, publications, public communication and other results /activities that promote and advance Open Science broadly. Open Science is well described in the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science as, “an inclusive construct that combines various movements and practices aiming to make multilingual scientific knowledge openly available, accessible and reusable for everyone, to increase scientific collaborations and sharing of information for the benefits of science and society, and to open the processes of scientific knowledge creation, evaluation and communication to societal actors beyond the traditional scientific community.” Up to three awards are given annually. Honor Benefits Recipients receive the following: Up to three $10,000 prizes will be given annually (to be split among members in the case of a team)One complementary registration to attend AGU's annual meeting the year the honor is awardedTravel reimbursement for two hotel nights to attend AGU's annual meeting the year the honor is awardedTwo tickets to attend the Honors Reception at AGU's annual meeting the year the honor is awardedAn invitation to present at AGU's annual meeting plenary session the year the honor is awardedAn invitation to attend at the President's reception at AGU's annual meeting plenary session the year the honor is awarded
