About the LAWINRC Mission Statement The Larned A. Waterman Iowa Nonprofit Resource Center is a University of Iowa interdisciplinary collaboration to make more accessible educational and service programs focused on strengthening the operational capacity of Iowa nonprofit organizations. The center works collaboratively with government agencies, nonprofit organizations and educational institutions. The center creates new knowledge through activities and provides information and training resources to help nonprofit organizations and interested persons throughout Iowa. We seek to build the capacity and develop the effectiveness of community-based organizations and enhance the overall effectiveness of local organizations in building communities. The center also introduces students to the nonprofit sector and develops their sense of public and community service. The Larned A. Waterman Iowa Nonprofit Resource Center (LAWINRC) is a University of Iowa interdisciplinary collaboration, founded in 2000 by UI College of Law Professor and UI President Emeritus Willard "Sandy" Boyd. The LAWINRC has established a record of training students in nonprofit law, offering workshops and training to nonprofit workers statewide, providing critical information on nonprofit issues, and developing publications and guidelines for Iowa’s nonprofit organizations. The Iowa Principles and Practices for Charitable Nonprofit Excellence was developed as part of the Governor’s Nonprofit Task Force in 2005. Ochylski Family Foundation Grants The Ochylski Family Foundation provides grants to registered nonprofit organizations, primarily through its online application process.
