Oasis Jumpstart Program

Overview: The Oasis Jumpstart Program brings whole food, plant-based meals, science-based nutrition education, and healthy lifestyle practices to underserved neighborhoods across the country. The program is modeled on validated Jumpstarts conducted in Mebane, North Carolina that were documented in the 2015 PlantPure Nation film.

Program Details

What They Fund:

  • 10-day intensive Jumpstart programs (some extended to 14-21 days)

  • Whole food, plant-based meals for participants

  • Biomarker testing (blood pressure, weight, blood work) before and after the program

  • Science-based nutrition education materials

  • Supplemental support services such as cooking classes, grocery shopping/label reading tours, fitness classes, and mindfulness training

  • Program guidance, forms, and nutrition education materials

  • Connection to PlantPure Communities Pod Network for ongoing support
  • What They Don't Fund:

  • PPC does not provide direct funding but will work with local groups to help identify and apply for local grants and support fundraising efforts

  • No funding commitment required from selected Local Partner Groups, only commitment of staff time and willingness to collaborate
  • Geographic Scope: National - underserved neighborhoods across the United States. Initial pilots included low-income neighborhoods in Georgia, California, Tennessee, and Arizona.

  • Key Requirements:

  • High confidence that at least 36-40 people are interested in participating

  • Ability to secure funding for program costs ($9,000-$18,000 for 36 participants)

  • Commitment to utilize PPC's Participant Forms and submit data to PPC

  • Compliance with HIPAA privacy requirements for biomarker testing

  • Designation of a Local Program Coordinator who understands whole food, plant-based lifestyle

  • Full commitment of group leadership to pilot success
  • Recommended (not required):

  • Access to free or low-cost biomarker testing

  • Connection with a physician or healthcare resource person

  • Staff with plant-based nutrition education (e.g., Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate from T. Colin Campbell Center, PCRM Food For Life program)

  • Local leaders/community members who can share personal wellness transformation stories

  • Existing local Pod or ability to create one

    Background: PlantPure Communities was founded in early 2016 by Nelson Campbell (son of T. Colin Campbell, PhD., author of The China Study). PPC's formation as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit grew out of the 2015 PlantPure Nation film. Over 20 Oasis Jumpstarts have been completed as of the website date.

    How to Apply

    Application Process

    Current Status: As of April 2022, PPC is assessing requests to conduct Oasis Jumpstart Pilots as they are received. The submission due date is May 21st for the National Open Invitation.

    Two Application Pathways:

    #### Pathway 1: Annual Open Invitation (Next deadline: May 21, 2026)
    1. Review the Open Invitation Oasis Jumpstart Application
    2. Complete the Supplemental Application Form
    3. Submit all required materials by the deadline
    4. PPC staff will inform applicants of selection status (anticipated within 30 days, but may vary based on volume)

    #### Pathway 2: Rolling Applications (for groups with secured funding)
    If your group has already secured funding and needs minimal assistance (program guidance, forms, structure, or 501(c)(3) affiliation support), you may apply outside the annual Open Invitation period.

    Key Application Considerations

    Positioning for Success (per FAQ guidance):

  • Secure a local grant ($9,000-$18,000) from benefactor or community foundation

  • Arrange reduced-cost or free biomarker testing partnerships

  • Build strong partnership with local Pod or create new Pod

  • Identify healthcare resource person for program guidance

  • Demonstrate community need and participant interest

  • Show evidence of at least 36-40 committed potential participants
  • Post-Award Commitment

    If selected, the Local Partner Group agrees to:

  • Execute a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with PPC

  • Serve as the Local Coordinating Group responsible for on-the-ground 10-day jumpstart

  • Provide staff time and program coordination

  • Collect and submit participant biomarker data and forms to PPC

  • Implement supplemental support services

  • Work collaboratively with PPC and other partners to secure additional resources

  • Comply with HIPAA privacy requirements

  • Commit leadership to pilot success
