Overview

Nursing Skills Program

Overview: Helps low to moderate-income individuals up-skill or re-skill into high demand nursing careers. Funded through a Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) Workforce Innovation Grant Program administered by WISCAP to tackle Wisconsin's healthcare workforce challenges.

Geographic Scope: Service area includes Barron, Chippewa, Dunn, Pepin, Pierce, Polk, and St. Croix counties in Wisconsin.

Focus Areas:

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) training

  • Medical Assistant training

  • Associate Degree Nurse (RN) training

  • High demand nursing careers
  • Funding Covers:

  • Up to $25,000 per participant toward tuition and fees

  • Books and required supplies for classes

  • Transportation costs to attend classes or clinicals

  • Childcare needed while student is in school-related activities

  • Additional assistance as needed
  • Eligible Training Institutions:

  • Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC)

  • Northwood Technical College
  • Eligibility Requirements:

  • Household income at or below 80% of the County Median Income

  • Reside in West CAP service area (Pierce, Pepin, Polk, St. Croix, Barron, Chippewa, and Dunn counties)

  • Training for Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Licensed Practical Nurse, RN Associate Degree, or RN Bachelor Degree

  • For Bachelor Degree programs, must be completable by June 30, 2025

  • Plan to get a job in Wisconsin upon graduation

  • No work requirements
  • Program Expectations:

  • Maintain regular contact with staff

  • Inform staff of changes (address, phone, income, household members, etc.)

  • Complete and return all forms as required

  • Participate in follow-up surveys during and after exiting the program

    Application Process

    1. Initial Contact: Reach out to Stephanie Stark, Program Manager
    2. Screening Meeting: Meet with staff to discuss nursing career goals and program eligibility
    3. Income Verification: Provide proof of household income (documentation of 80% of County Median Income or below)
    4. Residency Verification: Provide proof of residency in service area
    5. Training Plan Development: Work with staff to select nursing program and create funding plan
    6. Ongoing Communication: Maintain regular contact with staff and provide updates on progress
