North American Partnership for Environmental Community Action (NAPECA) Grants Program

The North American Partnership for Environmental Community Action (NAPECA) Grants Program, established by the Commission for Environmental Cooperation, aims to foster collaboration among Indigenous Peoples and local communities to address environmental challenges. This grant cycle focuses on circular economy initiatives that enhance local well-being and promote sustainable practices. Projects can receive funding up to $150,000 CAD, supporting efforts to integrate traditional knowledge and improve environmental conditions across North America.

What is NAPECA?
The CEC established NAPECA to promote shared responsibility and stewardship for the environment by engaging and partnering with tribal nations, Indigenous Peoples and communities, including Indigenous governments, councils and organizations, local communities, academia and registered nongovernmental organizations in Canada, Mexico and the United States.
Since 2010, NAPECA has been instrumental in fostering collaborative efforts to address pressing environmental challenges while promoting sustainable development and fostering cross-border cooperation. Through NAPECA, the CEC encourages model environmental initiatives that will help build long-term partnerships to improve environmental conditions at the community level and support local priorities.
Projects must have a duration of 12 to 24 months. The start and end dates indicated in your proposal must be within the range specified in the Call for Proposals.
Community-based Circular Economy Strategies to Improve Local Well-being and the Environment
For this grant cycle of NAPECA, the CEC is calling for project proposals that will help North American communities implement circular economy initiatives and strategies to improve local well-being and the environment.
The way resources are being extracted, used and then disposed of in the current linear economy model is putting pressure on natural systems, communities and public health. A circular economy shifts toward sustainable production and consumption patterns by improving management and efficient use of materials and resources throughout their life cycles (from extraction to recovery).
The 2024-2026 cycle supported environmental initiatives that help North American communities enhance climate adaptation by working with Indigenous Peoples and local communities to recognize, apply, and protect traditional and Indigenous knowledge systems.
You can submit proposals for up to $150,000 Canadian dollars. There is no minimum grant amount established.
