New Foundation for Art History Grants

The New Foundation for Art History (NFAH), established in 2019, aims to innovate within the art history field by addressing gaps left by other institutions. Offering five publication subvention grants of $1,000 to $5,000, NFAH prioritizes applications from U.S. scholars, especially those in underrepresented areas. With a commitment to diversity and equity, NFAH adapts its initiatives based on community feedback, fostering excellence in research and publication.

Founded in 2019, the New Foundation for Art History (NFAH) strives to serve the field in innovative ways that have been overlooked or underserved by existing institutions of its kind. Like other granting institutions, the goal of the NFAH will be to foster the best current research in the discipline. But it will do so with a difference. Having no long-term commitments or established culture, the NFAH can be entrepreneurial in the way it approaches its grant-making activities. The NFAH wants to lead by example towards a more equitable future of the discipline, and one where excellence is promoted and rewarded in the broadest ways possible.
The NFAH will be offering five publication subvention grants with prizes between $1,000 and $5,000 for book publication. Like other applications received by the NFAH, these applications will be read by the foundation leadership and relevant foundation committees.

The NFAH only accepts applications from scholars at U.S. institutions.
