Neville Shulman Challenge Award Grant

The Neville Shulman Challenge Award, established in 2001 by Neville Shulman CBE, supports innovative research projects and expeditions that enhance understanding of global cultures, environments, and geographical knowledge. Each year, two awards of up to £10,000 are granted to projects demonstrating significant intellectual and physical challenges. Eligible applicants include individuals and groups aiming to undertake impactful research with both local and global relevance, employing well-defined methods for data collection and dissemination.

The Neville Shulman Challenge Award aims to further the understanding and exploration of the planet - its cultures, peoples and environments - while promoting personal development through the intellectual or physical challenges involved in undertaking a research project or expedition. The Neville Shulman Challenge Award was established in 2001 for the Society by Neville Shulman CBE.Each year two awards of up to £10,000  will be given to a challenging research project or expedition. Applicants must demonstrate how the project is challenging; intellectually, physically and in terms of the issue being studied. Projects should have elements of both local and global interest, a clear purpose to advance geographical knowledge through well outlined methods of data collection, and with opportunities to share findings widely.

Eligibility

Applications are invited from both individuals and groups.It is expected that the grant will provide the majority of funding needed to undertake the project.

Ineligibility

Project proposals directly relating to PhD or MSc research will not be accepted.
