Overview

Neil Armstrong Scholarship

Overview: An annual scholarship honoring the achievements and character of Neil Armstrong, the late American hero and astronaut who died in 2012. The scholarship was created by friends and family of Neil Armstrong.

Award Amount: $20,000

Eligibility:

  • Regional high school seniors

  • Must pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics)

  • Selection based on:

  • - Outstanding academics
    - Strong interest in science
    - Dedication and perseverance
    - Financial need

    Geographic Scope: Regional high schools including Telluride, Norwood, Nucla, and Ouray

    Additional Notes:

  • Merit scholarship variant also available ($4,000) when exceptional candidates merit additional awards

  • Awards announced at high school awards ceremonies in May/June

  • Example recipient (2015): Julia Vann, Ouray High School, pursuing Mathematics and/or Biophysics at Amherst College
