NCCU Endowed Scholarship

Organization: Durham (NC) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated

Purpose: Provide educational opportunity for African Americans through support of historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

Background: The Southern Area's Scholarship Endowment Initiative began in 2006 under the leadership of Southern Area Director Margaret Thompson Johnson. The initiative aims to establish scholarship endowments at four-year HBCUs in the Southern Area.

Beneficiary Institution: North Carolina Central University (NCCU)

Endowment Details:

  • Initial agreement established May 2007 with $12,793.00

  • Additional contribution October 2008: $13,207 (bringing total to $25,000)

  • Chapter pledged additional $25,000 at 50th Anniversary Celebration (October 15, 2008) to bring endowment to $50,000 by 2013
  • Geographic Scope: Durham, NC and Southern Area
