Nancy A. Berkhouse Classical Art Scholarship Grant

The Nancy A. Berkhouse Classical Art Scholarship, established by Nancy A. Berkhouse's family, supports college students pursuing degrees in art, particularly in Classicism, Realism, or Classical Realism. This scholarship emphasizes the importance of realistic representation in art, including various genres such as still life and portraiture. Renewable for up to four years, it requires recipients to maintain full-time status and a minimum GPA of 2.5, reflecting the belief in education's power to transform lives.

The strong leadership of early organizers like Isadore Roosth, Norman Shtofman, “Dub” Riter, and an investment of the United Way of Tyler/Smith County launched the Foundation. By 1994, the Foundation’s assets had grown to more than one million dollars.

East Texas Communities Foundation administers a variety of scholarships that have been established by generous individuals to assist students with their educational pursuits. Each scholarship expresses a deep belief in the power of education to help young people achieve their dreams.
Established by the family of Nancy A. Berkhouse, The Nancy A. Berkhouse Classical Art Scholarship will be awarded to a current college student who is pursuing an arts degree with a strong preference for students pursuing the Classicism, Realism, or Classical Realism painting genre, characterized by accurate proportions, clear and logical expression of subjects; such as the style found commonly in Western are including still life, portrait, landscape and seascape, indoor and outdoor figure painting.
Nancy A. Berkhouse’s passion was the beauty of God’s creation and the appreciation of those artists who sought to capture that beauty realistically.
Length of Support: This scholarship is renewable for up to three years (a total of 4 years) if the student:

• Continues to pursue an undergraduate degree with a major in art
• Remains a full-time student
• Maintains a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 in his or her undergraduate program

Eligibility

Residency: Must be at least a college sophomore (45 hours completed at time of application) and have a declared major to be art in an undergraduate program at any college or university in Texas or Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Michigan.Academic Record: Must have at least a 2.5 GPA
