East Texas Communities Foundation East Texas Communities Foundation was founded in 1989 by visionary leaders who saw the need for a community foundation to serve the people and communities of East Texas. The strong leadership of early organizers like Isadore Roosth, Norman Shtofman, “Dub” Riter, and an investment of the United Way of Tyler/Smith County launched the Foundation. By 1994, the Foundation’s assets had grown to more than one million dollars. Scholarships East Texas Communities Foundation administers a variety of scholarships that have been established by generous individuals to assist students with their educational pursuits. Each scholarship expresses a deep belief in the power of education to help young people achieve their dreams. Nancy A. Berkhouse Classical Art Scholarship Established by the family of Nancy A. Berkhouse, The Nancy A. Berkhouse Classical Art Scholarship will be awarded to a current college student who is pursuing an arts degree with a strong preference for students pursuing the Classicism, Realism, or Classical Realism painting genre, characterized by accurate proportions, clear and logical expression of subjects; such as the style found commonly in Western are including still life, portrait, landscape and seascape, indoor and outdoor figure painting. Nancy A. Berkhouse’s passion was the beauty of God’s creation and the appreciation of those artists who sought to capture that beauty realistically. Length of Support: This scholarship is renewable for up to three years (a total of 4 years) if the student: Continues to pursue an undergraduate degree with a major in art Remains a full-time student Maintains a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 in his or her undergraduate programEligibility
