MPDC's Workforce Diversity & Development Program helps connect MPDC and Lower Roxbury residents seeking job placement and training with hiring general contractors, subcontractors, and vendors working on MPDC properties. The program builds and creates job opportunities for community residents.

Program Components

Community Job Fairs

• Connect employers with diverse population of applicants
• All skill levels welcome
• Mission: Help contractors and local businesses attract and retain Boston's best talent
• Recent employer participants: Metro Equipment Corporation, Suffolk Construction, City of Boston's BRJP Office

OSHA Classes

• OSHA-10 certification
• OSHA-30 certification
• For pre-qualified applicants interested in building trades employment
• Taught by certified instructors

Applicant Referral Pool

• Database of 800+ Greater Boston applicants
• Diverse experience, skillsets, and backgrounds
• Partnership with multiple employment hubs
• Pre-screening and referral services to general contractors and developers

Minority/Women-Owned Business Enterprises (MWBE) Development

• Back-office support and training
• Business development assistance
• Payroll submission support
• Ongoing technical support
• Pre-screening and referral of MWBE contractors to general contractors and developers

Hands-On Workforce Training

• Saturday workshops
• Preparation for MPDC Job Fairs
• Interview preparation and coaching
• Skills training: interviewing, elevator pitches, resume writing
• Tips and techniques for job seeking

How to Participate

For Job Fair Applicants:

1. Register for Job Fair: Contact MPDC or check website for upcoming job fair dates
2. Attend Workshop: Participate in hands-on Saturday workshops to prepare
3. Network with Employers: Meet with contractors and employers at job fairs
4. Interview Preparation: Receive coaching on resume, interview skills, and elevator pitch

For OSHA Certification:

1. Pre-Qualification: Contact MPDC to assess qualifications
2. Enroll in Class: Register for OSHA-10 or OSHA-30 classes
3. Complete Training: Attend certification course
4. Earn Certification: Receive OSHA certification upon completion

For Job Placement Support:

1. Contact MPDC: Reach out to Workforce Development team
2. Assessment: MPDC reviews qualifications and experience
3. Database Enrollment: Join applicant referral pool (800+ database)
4. Referral: MPDC refers qualified candidates to employers

For MWBE Contractors:

1. Contact MPDC: Express interest in MWBE development support
2. Assessment: MPDC evaluates contracting firm needs
3. Support Services: Receive back-office support, business development, and technical assistance
4. Referral: MPDC pre-screens and refers to general contractors and developers
