Overview

MPDC's Train 2 Trades program is a virtual hands-on workforce training initiative designed to prepare residents for entry-level positions in Boston's growing construction industry. The program follows the Core Curriculum model designed by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER).

    Program Goals

  • Recruit 50+ participants
  • Graduate 20+ participants over one year
  • Position MPDC projects to exceed Boston Residents Jobs Policy demands (51% Boston residents, 40% people of color, 12% women)
  • Create a larger pool of qualified, trained residents

Curriculum and Training Components

Online Self-Paced Modules (via MT2T.org)

  • OSHA-10 certification

  • Basic Construction Math (fractions/measurement)

  • Introduction to Hand/Power Tools

  • Reading Building Plans and Construction Drawings

  • Introduction to Masonry, Flooring, Painting, and Fire Protection

  • Other building trades

  • Employment application completion

  • Resume writing

  • Mock interviews

  • Measuring & Marking

  • Introduction to Framing
  • In-Person Hands-On Workshops

  • Held throughout Greater Boston

  • Taught by local tradespeople and MWBE contractors
