Overview

MPDC's Train 2 Trades program is a virtual hands-on workforce training initiative designed to prepare residents for entry-level positions in Boston's growing construction industry. The program follows the Core Curriculum model designed by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER).

Program Goals

• Recruit 50+ participants
• Graduate 20+ participants over one year
• Position MPDC projects to exceed Boston Residents Jobs Policy demands (51% Boston residents, 40% people of color, 12% women)
• Create a larger pool of qualified, trained residents

OSHA-10 certification

Basic Construction Math (fractions/measurement)

Introduction to Hand/Power Tools

Reading Building Plans and Construction Drawings

Introduction to Masonry, Flooring, Painting, and Fire Protection

Other building trades

Employment application completion

Resume writing

Mock interviews

Measuring & Marking

Introduction to Framing

In-Person Hands-On Workshops

Held throughout Greater Boston

Taught by local tradespeople and MWBE contractors

Applied learning from online modules
