Overview
Minnesota Racing Commission - Grants
The Minnesota Racing Commission (MRC) operates in the public interest to ensure the integrity of horse racing and card playing, oversee the proper distribution of funds back into the industry, and provide for the safety and welfare of human and equine participants. MRC supports the rehabilitation, retraining, and rehoming of retired racehorses by awarding grants to not-for-profit organizations that specialize in racehorse aftercare. These funds are from fees that MRC receives from online horseracing wagering platforms, as well as from fines for racing-related violations. MRC solicits proposals on an annual basis, with grant distributions that are concurrent to the conclusion of the Minnesota racetracks’ racing seasons. MRC also periodically requests proposals for equine research from institutions of secondary learning located in Minnesota.
