Overview: The Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance awards grants to TAA-accredited Thoroughbred aftercare organizations. Since inception in 2012, the TAA has awarded more than $17.2 million in grants to accredited organizations.

How to Apply
Application Process
1. Eligibility Check: Ensure organization meets all five minimum requirements (see overview)
2. Accreditation Application: Complete TAA accreditation application on ThoroughbredAftercare.org/Accreditation using OpenWater platform
3. Application Review: TAA staff reviews application for compliance with five key areas:
- Operations
- Education
- Horse health care management
- Facility standards and services
- Adoption policies and protocols
4. Site Inspections: Organizations passing application review are subject to TAA site inspections of all facilities housing Thoroughbreds
5. Accreditation Decision: Accreditation status determined after complete review
6. Grant Eligibility: Upon accreditation, organization becomes eligible to receive grants (amounts vary)
- Proof of 501(c)(3) status (U.S.) or registered charity status (Canada)
- Evidence of 3+ years operation
- Documentation of Thoroughbred care and ownership
- Written euthanasia policy
- Facility information and standards documentation
Required Materials
- Accreditation applications typically due April 1 at 6 p.m. ET
- Organizations with accreditation expiring in the current year must reapply to remain accredited
