Alzheimer’s Foundation of America Mission The mission of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) is to provide support, services and education to individuals, families and caregivers affected by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias nationwide, and fund research for better treatment and a cure. Milton & Phyllis Berg Family Respite Care Grants The Milton & Phyllis Berg Respite Care Grants are awarded to AFA member organizations to help provide respite care scholarships to families in need. Studies have shown that respite care can help improve quality of life for both the individual living with Alzheimer’s and family caregivers by providing social engagement and cognitive stimulation for the individual, and affording a much-needed time-out for the caregiver. Grants are awarded twice a year. The grants are awarded in memory of the deceased parents of Barry E. Berg, a former longtime member of AFA’s board of trustees. Both of Mr. Berg’s parents passed away in 2009: his mother, Phyllis, had Alzheimer’s disease, and his father, Milton, was a devoted caregiver.Eligibility
