Overview

Military Scholarships

Folds of Honor Foundation provides educational scholarships for dependents and spouses of fallen or disabled US service members.

    Geographic Scope

  • United States and U.S. Territories only (International institutions not eligible for 2024-2025 application year)
  • Nationwide service

    Eligibility

  • Dependents and/or spouses of fallen or disabled US service members
  • Must be able to provide official transcript showing 2.0 or higher GPA for two most recent academic terms (Higher Education only)
  • Students at post-secondary institutions strongly encouraged to complete FAFSA
  • Applicants must reapply each year

Funding Categories

1. Higher Education Scholarship - for college and post-secondary institutions (including technical/trade schools) - Covers: tuition, fees, on-campus dormitory housing, meal plans, required textbooks - Does NOT cover: off-campus housing, Greek housing, computers, special exams, student insurance, parking, sports tickets - Maximum payment: $2,500 per term ($1,250 for part-time students) - Full award cannot be paid in one lump sum

2. Children's Fund Scholarship - for K-12 private school and tutoring services
- Covers: tuition, most fees, required textbooks, required school uniform pieces
- Does NOT cover: curriculum materials (except required textbooks), PTO fees, sports uniforms/fees, music lessons
- Maximum: $5,000 per academic year
- Private school: paid in one lump sum at beginning of school year
- Tutoring: two equal payments (Fall and Spring)

    Award Basis

  • Based on unmet need (portion of eligible expenses not covered by other awards or financial aid)
  • Loans and work-study NOT considered as financial aid
  • Actual payment may be less than award offer based on unmet need
  • Remaining funds may be utilized in another payment term within same academic year

    School/Program Requirements

  • Must be accredited or registered within state
  • Tutoring services must be through established business with business address (not private individuals)
  • Institution eligibility determined by community foundation per IRS guidelines
  • No pre-approved schools/programs list published

    Additional Information

  • Applicants can create one account for multiple children but must complete separate application for each student
  • All funds mailed directly to educational institution; no funds sent directly to awardee
  • Minimum payment: $100 per term
  • If GPA requirement cannot be met, scholarship offer rescinded; student must reapply once two consecutive terms (fall and spring) of 2.0+ GPA achieved

How to Apply

Application Process

Application Window: February 1 – March 31 (annually)

  • If March 31 falls on weekend, deadline extended to close of first business day following March 31

  • All applications must be completed and submitted through online portal

  • Documentation NOT accepted via US mail, fax, email, or phone

    Application Steps

    1. Create Account
    - Use one email address for account creation
    - Account allows multiple children applications

    2. Complete Application
    - Select scholarship type (Higher Education or Children's Fund)
    - Click "Start a New Application" button
    - Name application by student for tracking
    - Complete full application for each student

    3. Required Documentation
    - Proof of relation to service member
    - Completed military service information form
    - VA Eligibility Letter (obtained from veteran/service member)
    - Official transcript (Higher Education only)
    - Current academic records
    - School information and accreditation proof
    - For Children's Fund: Current-month itemized tuition statement
    - For tutoring: Established tutoring business documentation

    4. Submit via Portal
    - All information must be submitted through online portal
    - Document examples provided within application for reference
    - Do not email corrections to incorrect documentation

    5. School Change (if applicable)
    - If school changes after application, indicate in Scholarship Acceptance – Check In section
    - Answer "No – Changed School" to applicable question
    - Upload new school information and documentation
    - New school must be vetted and approved BEFORE funds sent (may delay payment)

    6. Scholarship Acceptance – Check In
    - Offer/denial notifications sent mid-July
    - Upon receiving award offer email with detailed instructions
    - Complete Check In section on student application dashboard
    - Submit required documentation through portal
    - For private school: Submit current-month itemized tuition statement
    - For Higher Education: Submit proof of enrollment and school account information
    - For tutoring: Submit tutoring service documentation and payment agreement

    7. Check Processing
    - Allow 4-6 weeks for check delivery to school after Check In submission (if no additional information needed)
    - Incomplete/incorrect documentation significantly delays payment
    - Check mailed via USPS first-class mail to institution

      Important Notes

    • Applications must be resubmitted each year for continued funding
    • If school changes, new institution must be verified and approved
