Geographic Scope: United States and U.S. Territories only (international institutions not funded)

Overview: Educational scholarships for dependents and spouses of fallen or disabled U.S. service members. Folds of Honor has awarded over 62,000 educational scholarships since 2007. The scholarship is based on "unmet need" - the portion of tuition, fees, on-campus dormitory housing, meal plans, and required textbooks not covered by other financial aid sources.

    Eligibility

  • Who: Spouses and/or dependents of fallen or disabled U.S. service members
  • Academic Level: K-12th grade through higher education (including technical/trade schools)
  • GPA Requirement: For higher education, must provide official transcript showing 2.0 or higher GPA for the two most recent academic terms at time of scholarship acceptance
  • Required Documentation:
  • - Proof of relation to service member - VA Eligibility Letter from the veteran/service member
  • Unmet Need Definition: Portion of costs not covered by other awards/financial aid; loans and work-study are NOT counted as financial aid

What IS Covered

Higher Education: Tuition, fees, on-campus dormitory housing, meal plans (on-campus only), required textbooks

K-12 (Children's Fund): Tuition, most fees, required textbooks, required school uniform pieces

What IS NOT Covered

Higher Education: Off-campus housing, Greek housing, computers/accessories, special field/certification/license exams, student insurance, previous year/semester charges, parking/transportation passes, sports tickets

K-12: Curriculum materials (only required textbooks), PTO fees, sports uniforms/fees, music lessons

    Payment Terms

  • Maximum per term: $2,500 for full-time students, $1,250 for part-time students
  • Payment method: Checks mailed directly to educational institution (not to awardee); no funds sent directly to students
  • Payment timeline: 4-6 weeks after scholarship acceptance check-in submission
  • Private school: Lump sum at beginning of academic year
  • Tutoring: Two equal payments (Fall and Spring)
  • Higher Ed payment schedule: Up to $2,500 per term; cannot be paid in one lump sum

    Important Information

  • Applicants must reapply each year
  • Schools/programs must be accredited or registered within the state
  • Tutoring services must be provided through established business with business address (not private individuals)
  • Schools outside U.S./U.S. Territories not eligible (as of 2024-2025 application year)
  • All checks issued by Tulsa Community Foundation
  • Multiple children require separate applications per child
  • Students can change schools after accepting award but new school must be approved before funds are sent
  • Scholarship amounts paid based on actual unmet need; if unmet need is less than $2,500, only actual need is disbursed

How to Apply

Application Process

Application Window: February 1 - March 31 (annually)

  • If March 31 falls on weekend, deadline extended to close of first business day following March 31
  • Award Notification: Mid-July (denial/offer notifications)

    Acceptance & Check-in:

  • Scholarship Acceptance/Check-in 1 opens shortly after award notifications

  • Scholarship Acceptance/Check-in 1 deadline: September 15
  • Steps to Apply

    1. Complete FAFSA - Strongly encouraged for all post-secondary students (required for federal aid eligibility)

    2. Create Account - Visit fohscholarships.communityforce.com and create account with email address

    3. Complete Application - Submit one application per student
    - Multiple children require separate applications
    - Can create one account for multiple children and submit separate applications for each

    4. Submit Documentation Through Portal
    - All application information must be submitted through online portal
    - Documentation NOT accepted via US mail, fax, email, or phone
    - Document examples provided in application for reference
    - Do not submit via email or additional channels

    5. Accept Award Offer (if selected)
    - Official scholarship award offer emailed in mid-July
    - Read letter carefully and follow all directions

    6. Complete Scholarship Acceptance/Check-in
    - Submit required documentation (varies by school type):
    - Higher Education: School account information, enrollment verification, financial aid package details
    - Private School: Current-month itemized tuition statement from school
    - Tutoring: Proof of established business, business address

    7. School Verification - School/program must be verified and approved before funds sent

    8. Check Processing - Check mailed directly to school within 2-3 business days after printing
